EASY GRANDPARENTING
How do I love being a grandparent! So let me count the ways. Does she love me? Or does he love me? I know it sounds like the best feeling next to shopping, fishing, eating, watching sports or watching a favorite television program. Oh yeah, ice cream and apple pie. Why is Grandparenting such a tasty treat, fun, and informative all rolled into one? Because grandparents want to highlight all their mistakes and make amends. You know, they want a second chance. If their children did not fulfill the parents’ dreams, the grandparents get a do-over with the grandchildren. After all, who will listen to all those boring stories over and over again without running away, making excuses to leave, or getting off the phone? And you can send them home after spoiling them rotten!
A favorite part is hyping them up with lots of candies, toys, clothes, and their favorite unhealthy food. Sounds bad, huh?
Anyway, grandparents play a significant role in shaping their grandchildren’s lives. The grandparent's roles include teaching cooking, house cleaning, proper attire for various occasions, and giving Godly advice, especially during those adolescent years. Grandparents can babysit and assist with homework assignments. Maybe not, have you seen the new way of doing math? Of course, they can teach crochet, knitting, sewing skills, and stamp collections. The list goes on.
- First, hugs and kisses are contagious, so spread them around to all of your grandchildren.
- Secondly, money is no object for whatever they want, if you can afford it.
- Thirdly, leave spiritual heritages about what happens after death.
- Fourth, allow your grandchildren to teach you how to live life to the fullest.
- Fifth, remember, grandparent mentoring is optional, but enjoying it mandatory.
- Sixth, another favorite part or role is dropping them off and picking them up from school. Yes, waiting in the long line with other parents, and trying to prove you have permission to pick up them from school. Thank God you need proof and the school reinforces the rules. Especially with the high rate of kidnapping in this country.
Finally, as grandparents, you need to leave a spiritual inheritance of what is after this life. I know you live in this life, but an eternal life exists. As Joshua says, “When your children lie down to rest, let them know that there is only one God.” Take your grandchildren to the house of God. Teach them how to pray. Teach them about the importance of obeying, respecting, and serving others. Let them know the only colors in the world are greed, indifference, and dreaming the impossible. Let them know that the love of God is real, and He sacrificed all for us to spend our eternal life in Heaven, So be worth it.
Grandparents can be very rewarding because they have the heart to serve, the heart to care, and the empty heart of loneliness after the children move out of the house. Grandparents are the link to attending those missed moments; their children’s baseball games, sports events, school recitals, and telling them their favorite bedtime stories. This is their opportunity to redeem themselves, whether they had to work demanding jobs, two jobs, career goals, sickness, or other interests. Grandparents’ role includes opening up those sweet feelings. Remembering being young. Playing hide and seek with them. Shopping at their favorite stores. Just sitting and talking to them about their dreams and their lives. Their friends. Their favorite sports. Their hobbies. Their immediate needs.
